51 offences were detected during the day-long Operation Iompair in the South East.
Gardaí from the Kilkenny and Waterford roads policing personnel teamed up for the action which involved the HGV tractor unit working closely with marked and unmarked crews in a bid to detect distracted driving and more.
46 mobile phone fixed charge penalties were handed out with five seatbelt detections also made.
A local Garda warns; “We make no apologies for using undercover units to detect Distracted Driving and other offences, be it on the open road using a HGV or similar town based operations using beat and pushbike. The people risking their and everybody else’s lives will not do this in front of a marked patrol car but do need to be caught”.
