It looks like it won’t be long until the next phase of works to upgrade Altamont House in Carlow begins.
Back in December of last year it was announced that a visitor centre and tearooms are to be built in the 300-year-old building.
The building has been out of bounds for visitors to the gardens for some times.
Now it’s understood the Office of Public Works has put the next phase of those works out to tender, which would see the main roof of the house fully refurbished and other structural provisions.
Altamont Gardens is one of the county’s top tourist sites – attracting over 58,000 visitors last year.
