There are around 20 children waiting for a psychological assessment for between 36 and 52 weeks in the Carlow/Kilkenny region.
The figures released by the Department of Health show that four local children have been waiting for more than 52 weeks.
The statistics for children awaiting a psychology appointment in primary care show that, nationally, 5,954 were on a waiting list for assessment as of the end of June this year.
In the Carlow/Kilkenny area, there are 32 under the age of four, with the remaining 138 between the ages of five and 17.
Of the under-fours, four have been waiting for more than a year for an appointment.
However, Carlow/Kilkenny is one of only six areas in the country that doesn’t have any one between 5 and 17 years of age waiting for that length of time.
Overall locally, 20 children are waiting for between 39 weeks and a year, 42 are waiting more than 26 weeks, 62 are waiting more than 12 weeks, and 42 have been waiting for less than 12 weeks.
This area in general – CH05, which also incorporates South Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford – has among the highest number of children on these waiting lists.
