Episode 23 – Alms House Inistioge

This is an old one!! It’s a plaque above the old Inistioge Alms House built by Sarah Tighe in 1788. Sarah was a very generous woman and embraced the Methodist faith which must have inspired the inscription which reads ” Make to yourselves friends with the mammon of unrighteousness. That when we fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations”. Historian Carmel Cummins gives us an insight into the life of the Tighe’s in the following clip
