St Lukes hospital in Kilkenny may no longer provide trauma care as part of new measures to cut down on overcrowding.
It’s part of a new centralisation strategy aimed a reducing numbers in our emergency departments.
Todays Sunday Business Post reports that St Lukes, Wexford, South Tipperary and Portlaoise could be among a number of regional hospitals that will stop taking trauma patients along with 3 big Dublin hospitals.
According to the paper a new report recommends creating 2 major trauma units – one to be based in Cork and one in Dublin.
