One county Kilkenny community will say its final goodbyes to a local stalwart who did all he could to advance Castlecomer and its surrounds.

Gerard Ferris died at his home at Ardra on Friday after a long illness.

Known to many as Gerry or Ger, the husband and father of four was involved in many of the groups and organisations who fought hard for the north county area. He also ran in elections in a bid to represent the locality politically as an Independent Councillor.

Tributes have been outlining his input:

His Funeral takes place from midday today (Monday, 5th Oct) at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Castlecomer after which he’ll be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery (More here).
