The development of new homes at the old Brog Maker site on the outskirts of Kilkenny City has moved on a step.
Following public consultation 19 submissions were made on the plans with key issues including density, carparking, construction managment & elements of the design.
Based on these a number of amendments were made & presented to elected members at their monthly meeting yesterday.
The conversation dominated the gathering, taking about an hour & a half to complete & resulting in two role-call votes. One proposed by Andrew McGuinness & supported by Malcolm Noonan called for the deferal of a decision until the next council meeting, which had the support of just four other councillors. With that defeated, the second vote saw the plans passed by all with the exception of Patrick McKee.
All however were in agreement that new houses are needed – 2000 people are looking for homes in Kilkenny, over half of them want to be based in the city centre with 80% requiring one or two beds.
