Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) will be free from January for women experiencing menopausal symptoms.
As part of the Budget measure, the State would cover the cost if it is deemed clinically appropriate.
The plans are before Cabinet today where Health Minister Stephen Donnelly is expected to tell colleagues that it’s a measure that could be enacted quickly.
Carlow Councillor Ben Ward had campaigned on this issue ahead of the Local Elections and raised it with An Taoiseach Simon Harris and today told KCLR News “It’s brilliant news now that the free HRT is gone to Cabinet today, it was a huge cost for women, anywhere between €30 and €70 per month, and it’s something that all women have to go through and it’s a huge cost for them so I’m happy now that hopefully come January now all women will be able to access this vital healthcare support for free so it’s a good day”.
