Gardaí are on the hunt for three men believed responsible for an attempted burglary of a County Carlow business premises.

They’d been alerted to a report of intruders attempting to gain access to the property at Kilree on the Borris Road in Bagenalastown close to 1am yesterday (Sunday, 19th Jan) morning.

On arrival at the scene a silver-coloured Nissan Qashqai was found abandoned outside with its engine still running – it had been used in an attempt to ram the roller shutter doors after earlier being stolen from Oakgrove in Bagenalstown.

No entry was gained and no property was taken.

CCTV in the area captured three male suspects all of whom fled the scene in a second vehicle, a dark-coloured Skoda Octavia, in the direction of Bagenalstown.

This car was then found abandoned in Celbridge, County Kildare before 7am on Sunday morning.

Carlow Detective Unit are appealing to anyone who may have seen any unusual or suspicious persons, vehicle or activity in the Bagenalstown area, particularly in the Oakgrove, Kilree/Borris Road area, at or around the time of the incident (00.42hrs) to contact them on 059 9136620.

They are also appealing to anybody, including businesses, in the Bagenalstown area who may have CCTV, doorbell cam to  view same to see if it captured anything that may assist them in their investigation.

A wider appeal for any dashcam footage and witnesses was made through the Bagenalstown and Ballinkillen Community Text Alert Groups as well as the Bagenalstown Business Watch Group.

Sgt. Conor Egan of Carlow Community Policing unit has appealed to people to “stay vigilant, to look out for each other and to report anything of a suspicious nature, be that persons, vehicles or activity, to their local Gardai in real time.”
