Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and Enable Ireland is using the date to give a twist on a typical spring clean.

The non profit organisation provides services to over 13,000 children and adults with disabilities, including at the O’Neill Centre in Kilkenny.

The team has kicked off its latest fundraiser which appeals to people to break-up with their unloved clothes, shoes, books, music and various household items and donate them to one of their 28 charity shops so that they can sell them on.

The initiative also provides a platform for those interested in becoming more sustainable – every year over 2,000 tonnes of donated textiles and clothes are donated to the group, saving them from landfills.

Oonagh O’Connor, Commercial Manager at Enable Ireland says; “February is a month associated with love and romance. It’s also a time when many people choose to declutter their homes with a Spring Clean. This year, we’re uniting the two by encouraging the public to ‘break up’ with their once-loved items, and then fall in love with second-hand.

She appeals; “Go through your wardrobes, kitchen presses, and chest of drawers. What may no longer have use for you, could be exactly what someone else is looking for. We’ll help your donations find the perfect match and you’ll help raise funds to benefit our vital services!”

Ray O’Meara is Shop Manager at the outlet at 14, Kieran Street in Kilkenny city – he’s been telling KCLR News’ Edwina Grace of the campaign;
