The Residential Zoned Land Tax unfairly targets smaller towns and villages according to one local Councillor.
3% of the market value of a property is charged yearly on those zoned for residential use which have access to necessary services such as water supply, roads and lighting.
While urban centres, like Carlow town where the demand for housing is higher are exempt, smaller, more rural areas are not.
The topic was discussed at the monthly meeting of the county council this week as Cllr Charlie Murphy’s been outlining to KCLR News;
