Trial due to start today for man charged with murder of Kilkenny native in London

The trial is due to start today of a man charged the murder of a Kilkenny native in the UK Capital last May.

87-year-old John Mackey, who’s originally from Callan, died after being attacked while walking home from a shop in north London.

The accused appeared before the Old Bailey via video link earlier this month, charged with one count of murder and one county of robbery – he pleaded not guilty.

He’s due before the courts again today.
