Carlow GAA have confirmed that Tom Mullally has stepped down as manager of the Carlow senior hurling team after five successful years in charge.

Mullally’s tenure delivered some of the county’s most memorable achievements, highlighted by th Joe McDonagh Cup victory over Offaly at Croke Park in 2023 securing Carlow’s place in the 2024 Leinster Championship.

He also oversaw Carlow’s rise to Division 1B of the National Hurling League, retaining that status again in 2025. In a statement, Carlow GAA praised Mullally’s “thoroughly professional approach” and his significant contribution to the county’s hurling development, wishing him “every health and happiness for the future.”

Off the intercounty stage, Mullally remains one of the most respected coaching figures in Leinster hurling. He is currently guiding Naas senior hurlers as they prepare for a Leinster semi-final meeting with Wexford champions St Martin’s. His track record at club level is well established: he steered Naas to Leinster and All-Ireland intermediate titles in 2021 and 2022, led Kilkenny club Clara to their first county senior title in nearly 30 years in 2013, and brought Mount Leinster Rangers to a Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship.

Carlow GAA say they will now move swiftly to appoint a new senior hurling manager for the 2026 season.
