Carlow’s footballers moved to the top of Division 4 following a hard-earned 1–17 to 1–14 victory over Tipperary at FBD Semple Stadium.
The result was secured thanks in no small part to a crucial moment from Carlow goalkeeper Ben McCarron, who produced a decisive penalty save to deny Tipperary and swing momentum in Carlow’s favour.

Speaking afterwards on the KCLR Sport Podcast, McCarron said he felt confident as he faced down the spot kick.
“I was confident enough when he put the ball down that I was going to go the right way. It was just about getting enough of a hand on it, and thank God it looped over the bar. We’re happy to get the win — it wasn’t a great performance and we know we’re a lot better than that.”
