A working group on the use of sunbeds has recommended a ban on their use.
It found such a policy would be the most effective, evidence based approach to reduce their harmful effects, particularly among children and young people.
It is one of two reports published on the issue today, with a third being finalised and due shortly.
Minister for Public Health Jennifer Murnane O’Connor has approved work to progress on to the next phase of policy development.
She says it will support exploring ways to ban commercial sunbed use as part of Ireland’s cancer prevention framework.
