The latest archaeological dig on the grounds of Ballymoon Castle, just outside Bagenalstown, have proven very successful according to the project leader.
The two-week dig was led by archaeologist and Bagenalstown native Niall O’Neill and involved the excavation of two trenches, including one at the building’s principal entry point.

Niall told KCLR News that evidence unearthed during both digs he has been involved in at Ballymoon have greatly increased the likelihood that communities lived alongside the main structure for generations. He also expressed his wish to undertake further digs at the site in due course.
