A silent cycle in memory of Damian Wróbel is taking place locally today.
Aged in his thirties, the Polish native died following a crash involving his bike and a car on the Tullaroan Road on the outskirts of Kilkenny city last month.
He was very popular locally having lived and worked here for many years.
A fundraiser to help repatriate his body was launched (details here) and today (Sunday, 12th July) donations will also be accepted at a special event organised by locally-based Liviu Iftime, who’s also an avid cyclist and made Kilkenny his home.
He says; “We ride in quiet solidarity to honour him, to stand with his family, and to raise funds to help fulfil his last wish: to bring his body home for burial in his hometown of Nowa Sól, Poland. This will be a slow, peaceful route through Kilkenny City. There will be no music, no shouting, and no racing. We will ride together in respectful silence for the journey. All welcome. All ages and abilities welcome. You do not need to be an experienced cyclist to take part.”
It gets underway from the The Parade in Kilkenny city from midday.
