The Kilkenny cancer support centre will officially open at it’s recently revamped new premises today.
Cois Nore House, located on the Waterford Road just off the Ring Road, will see Health Minister Dr Jennifer Carroll MacNeill joined by locally based Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O’Connor for festivities.
Set up in 2013, many have availed of the offerings, initially from Walkin Street in the city centre.
Now this base will continue to be a safe haven for those with cancer and their families, but in a bigger and brighter setting with counselling rooms, family support spaces, a community kitchen, landscaped outdoor areas and a new Wellness Studio which will allow the introduction of a range of wellness and exercise programmes that are proven to improve outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer.
Free services include counselling, lymphoedema massage, reflexology, yoga, oncology massage, CLIMB programmes for children, activity and support groups, as well as the Cois Nore Choir. (More information here).
The Chairperson of Cois Nore, Dr Bill Cuddihy, will speak at today’s gathering while Minister Carroll MacNeill will formally open the centre and meet staff, volunteers, clients and local representatives.
A spokesperson for Cois Nore says; “Her visit highlights the Government’s commitment to strengthening community-based psycho-social cancer care and ensuring that families in Kilkenny can access high-quality support close to home.”
They add; “The opening of Cois Nore House is a testament to the strength of the Kilkenny community. As the document concludes: “There is strength in unity. Ní neart go cur le chéile. In it together.” Cois Nore House will stand as a symbol of that unity—supporting individuals, empowering families, and ensuring that no one in Kilkenny faces cancer alone.”
