Nearly 45-thousand penalty points notices were issued for speeding in the first three months of the year – up by 16 per cent on last year.
Gardai say they catch most offenders in urban areas – where there is a heightened risk of pedestrian casualties.
Regional Traffic Superintendent Pascal Connolly told KCLR news that being compliant will reverse any emerging trends.
