Antidote for heroin overdose could be rolled out in Carlow and Kilkenny next year

A local drugs outreach worker is hopeful that a scheme for heroin users might be available in Carlow and Kilkenny soon.

Nalaxone – an antidote used to reverse the effects of a heroin overdose will be available for prescription from tomorrow under a new HSE initiative being rolled out in 4 cities.

Patrick Connaughton works with the South East Drugs Taskforce – he hopes if this pilot project is a success then locals might be able to avail of it too.
