Promises for flood relief in Thomastown haven’t been kept according to locals

31/12/2015. (Image 5).Tanaiste Burton Visits Thomastown. Tanaiste and Minister for Social Welfare Joan Burton visited Thomastown in County Kilkenny today to view the flood damage caused by Storm Frank. During the visit she took a canoe with Minister of State for Rural Affairs, Ann Phelan T.D. to view damage caused to the home of Chem Caulfield on the Quays. Unfortunately during the trip, the canoe capsised and the two ministers ended up in the flood water which was a couple of feet deep. The canoe was being towed by Mr. Caulfield. Photo: RollingNews.ie

“All sorts of promises were made” but none have been kept.

That’s according to Thomastown resident, Shem Caulfield in relation to the flood relief work for the town and its surrounds following the severe flooding at the end of last year.

Shem gained some publicity during the floods thanks to former Labour leader, Joan Burton and then local TD Ann Phelan falling out of a boat he was pulling through the town.

However, speaking to KCLR he says nothing has been done.
