ESB is warning that it could take up to a week for power to be returned to some customers following Storm Darragh.
Nearly 400,000 premises across the country were left without electricity over the weekend following the significant winds – 14,000 of them in Carlow and Kilkenny.
Of these about 500 remain without a supply this morning, more than 300 are in the Tullow area alone, the rest between Pollerton in Carlow town as well as Graignamanagh, Piltown and Kilmanagh in County Kilkenny.
The local estimated restoration times vary up to 9 o’clock tonight but it may take days for some due to the scale of the damage as ESB Networks Regional Manager Brian Tapley outlines; “The storm is probably at the same scale as Storm Ophelia from 2017, only the difference is it’s hit the entire country, we’ve all our crews deployed around the country, our French counterparts Enedis are arriving today too to support the effort as well”.
