A Carlow duo has made it to the national finals of the New Local Hero competition.
The contest is running as part of Irish Music Month, an initiative of Hot Press and Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI), funded by Coimisiún na Meán under the Sound & Vision scheme with support from IMRO, RAAP, Live Nation, Rubyworks and Camden Recording Studios.
21 participating radio stations had each yielded a nominee from their respective first rounds and six of these in total have now been picked to perform at a special showcase in The Academy, Dublin on the 15th of October.
Aaron Thompson and Sophia Jones, who perform as Asophonics and won the KCLR votes with track Washing Dishes, have this morning been confirmed as one of the finalists.
The pair opened for award-winning Irish representatives Encore at the International Pan Celtic Festival before selling out their debut headline concert at Youngblood Sessions 14.
The KCLR Daily’s Brian Redmond officially had the update this morning;
Joining Asophonics in the national final are Calum Agnew (LMFM), Bobbi Arlo (FM104), Mia Black (Shannonside / Northern Sound), Jessica Brett (Tipp FM) and Projective (Cork’s 96FM).
