Carlow and Kilkenny’s transplant athletes are back on home soil this morning following big performances at the European Championships in the Netherlands.
The Transplant Sport Ireland team returned through Dublin Airport last night after capturing an impressive haul of 28 medals, including 16 gold.
Among those celebrating this morning are Carlow living donor Tomás Ó hAileagáin, alongside Kilkenny men JP O’Neill and Pat Savage.
Silver medallist James Nolan says the medals are only part of the story, noting; “It just shows what people can do when they put their mind to something, they can overcome most obstacles in life, it’s just incredible when you hear some of the stories of all the different people I met here of heart, lung, liver, kidney, to even people on dialysis and how they are using sport to motivate themselves to stay fit in the hope they get a transplant”.
