A Kilkenny councillor is calling on motorists to slow down and change their behaviour around schools.
Maria Dollard is warning of dangers associated with drop-offs and pick-ups of students and pupils, in particular for those attending the Loreto Secondary and St Canice’s Primary on the Granges Road in the city.
More pedestrian crossings were recently added along the stretch to facilitate walkers and cyclists and Cllr Dollard says drivers now need to change their habits telling KCLR News; “There is a problem with how drivers are continuing to go a little bit too fast on the Granges Road and maybe not realise that when they come up to the pedestrian crossings they must stop”.
She adds “They’re not the usual, you know, ‘press the button’ and ‘the green man’ type of crossing, they’re a crossing that prioritises pedestrians so if you’re a driver and you’re coming up to one of these crossings you must allow the pedestrians to cross, they have right of way”.
