Carlow County Council has secured its first court conviction using CCTV evidence to tackle illegal dumping.
A person caught dumping waste at the Tullow Civic Amenity and Recycling Centre was fined €1,500, with a further €500 awarded in costs to the local authority.
Senior Executive Officer Liam Carroll says almost 190 offences have been detected since the cameras were installed last October, with more prosecutions expected.
