Carlow County Museum is bidding for full accreditation under the Museum Standards Programme for Ireland.
It’s the top rating for museums across the country. The board has submitted an application to the Heritage Council.
Only about 50 places in the country have been awarded this recognition.
Manager Dermot Mulligan joined Sue Nunn on yesterday’s The Way It Is and said a lot of work has gone into trying to get it right.
He told KCLR “Successfully apply 35 standards to how you operate your museum, why you do what you do, how you’re doing it, why you’re doing it, when you’re doing it all that is to be planned and documented and back in 2020 we were very lucky, we received the interim accreditation.”
