Fianna Fail Councillor Ken Murnane was elected as Mayor of Carlow’s Municipal District for the second time at yesterday’s Annual General Meeting, which was held at the Town Hall. His party colleague, Councillor Andrea Dalton, will serve as Deputy Mayor.
Mayor Murnane comes from strong political stock, with his late father Jimmy, his sister, Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O’Connor and the Mayor himself having collectively devoted over 50 years of public service to the people of Carlow: members of the Mayor’s family joined him at yesterday’s AGM.
Speaking to KCLR News, Mayor Murnane said he was humbled and that he fully intends to do the best possible job.
“It is an absolute honour to be the mayor of Carlow Town, in my last term, I really enjoyed it, and I do believe it does help when making representations for people. So I am looking forward to the year.”
