The Carlow Kilkenny agricultural community was well represented at a General Election candidate debate last night.
The Lord Bagenal hosted the IFA gathering during which derogation, the Common Agricultural Policy and Mercosor were all discussed.
The organisation’s county secretary and sheep committee chair Marion Dalton says rural crime too was very much to the fore, noting; “Farmers are worried about it, especially in the winter time, those dark days and that kind of thing that they’re worried about the lack of Gardaí in rural areas; now that was mentioned last night, a lady brought it up and it was discussed, there I suppose is a promise of more Gardaí but a lot of the rural stations have closed and that’s not good either”.
