Carlow County Council is to be one of the first local authorities in the country to introduce what’s been called “the Google maps of graveyards”.
Work is well underway on the system which will digitise its cemeteries and record all the information about them in an internet database.
Users will then be able to go online and and zoom in on pictures of old headstones and click on information about them.
Carlow Museum Curator Dermot Mulligan says it will also help them manage the graveyards that are still in use today.
