Carlow Older People’s Council brings its ‘Staying Safe, Warm and Connected’ roadshow to Ballinkillen today.

It’s part of their series of information sessions which are designed to help those who are older in our community with representatives from a variety of services and organisations available locally as well as emergency responders and others who between them will provide practical, accessible details on a range of topics.

Including how to prepare for severe weather events, understanding the role and locations of community support centres and more on the Carlow Community Support Register.

It’s an initiative which is supported by Age Friendly Carlow, Carlow Fire Service, An Garda Síochána Carlow Volunteer Centre, and the Local Community Safety Partnership, the Carlow SEAI Sustainable Energy Community Team, the Public Participation Network and Carlow County Development Partnership.

Joe Butler, Chairperson of the Older People’s Council, said; “Community safety affects all of us, especially older people. These roadshows are about giving people the information they need and making sure they know where to turn for support. We want everyone to feel confident, prepared and connected.”

Ray Regan of Carlow Fire Service added; “Being prepared can make a real difference during severe weather or emergency situations. These events allow us to share clear, practical advice and ensure people understand the supports available locally.”

Cllr. Michael Doran, Chairperson of the Local Community Safety Partnership, said; “This initiative reflects the core principle at the heart of the Local Community Safety Partnership – strong collaboration between agencies and community groups.  By working together, we can ensure our communities are better informed, more resilient, and well supported, particularly in times of need.  Empowering communities is key to enhancing safety and wellbeing across Carlow.”

Helen Rothwell, Manager of Carlow Volunteer Centre, said; “Volunteers play a vital role in keeping communities connected and safe. The roadshows are a great opportunity for people to learn about the supports available and the contribution volunteers make across Carlow.”

The Ballinkillen Lorum Community Centre hosts the gathering from 10am to 1pm and it’s free to all.
