Carlow town’s gleaming as it prepares to be judged.
It and Ballinahown village in Westmeath have been selected to represent Ireland in the Entente Florale, the Europe-wide tidy towns style competition.
Inistioge in County Kilkenny was awarded gold in the contest in 2018 while there was success for Clonegal in 2013 and Leighlinbridge too in 2001.
Judges are due at 8:30am with Mayor Fintan Phelan among those set to greet them.
He’s been telling KCLR News “This morning I’m delighted to welcome the judges from the Entente Florale competition to Carlow town to judge the town to see how we fare, how the town looks sustainable, how we enhance the quality of life for people in our town and we’ve the seen huge progress the council has made over the last number of months in that regard so I’m delighted to welcome the judges from the Entente Florale competition to Carlow this morning”.
Mayor Phelan adds “I’m looking forward to showcasing the best of Carlow town today, we’re going to be visiting places such as St Patrick’s College and Visual, St Lasarian’s School, the Delta Centre, St Mary’s Church, our town park, An Gairdin Beo, Hanover Park and SETU, it’s a jam-packed itinerary today so if people are around and about make sure to give a big ‘hello’ to our Entente Florale judges”.
