We’re being warned to be on high alert for scam messages seeking customs payments with the introduction of new charges next week.
Deliveries shipped from outside the EU and valued at, or under, €150 will be hit with a €3 fee on each unique item in an order.
Any package that reaches Ireland from midnight on the 30th June will be subject to the new rules. (More here).
Grainne Griffin from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission is warning consumers to be vigilant, noting; “If you get a message like really think back and check ‘did I already pay the customs duty online’, you know, ‘where is this message coming from’, the Revenue Commissioners have been so clear, they will never ask consumers to pay the tax directly to them so anything claiming to be from the Revenue Commissioners is a scam and An Post will never send you a link to click to pay”
