A Carlow Councillor has described Bagenalstown as a “black spot for CCTV”.
Elected representatives were told at their monthly meeting that such cameras, which the authority itself is responsible for, are currently restricted to environmental monitoring and cannot be used to monitor any other activity.
Cllr John Cassin had a made similar request with regards to Tullow.
Chair of the Bagenalstown MD Daniel Pender says that there are spots that would benefit from having the measure in place, noting; “An area that could use CCTV is the Fair Green area in Bagenalstown where the park is, it’s pretty much in the centre of town where there’ll be an awful lot of foot traffic as well as car traffic and in light of recent anti-socal behaviour there it would act as a deterrent to ensure that people do not congregate there”.
