CEO of Carlow Chamber of Commerce “disappointed” by decision not to grant permission for Barrow Blueway

The Chief Executive of Carlow’s Chamber of Commerce says the council’s decision on the Barrow Blueway is preventing progress.

Brian O’Farrell and the chamber had been among the groups backing Waterways Ireland’s plans to develop the hard-surface track that would stretch from Lowtown in Kildare to St Mullins in Carlow.

However, a major spanner was thrown into the works this week when Carlow was the only planning authority of the three counties to turn down the application.

Speaking to KCLR, Brian says it’s been very disappointing and he says it came as a surprise to many people that the council gave an outright no to the plans.
