I’ve been enjoying Malaki’s work for some time and I’m so looking forward to seeing him live. He’s part of a new wave of Irish artists bringing their own perspectives and experiences to hip hop and rap. We caught up for a quick chat but, as I’m sure you’ll hear in this piece, we did wander about a bit. He’s a thoughtful and considered artist and takes time to seek out new ways to express his truth. His music is intriguing, engaging and his lyrics are thought provoking (to undertake it!) but there’s also lots to hear inside the production.
We chat about his approach and his immediate plans for the gig as part of this year’s Carlow Arts Festival, at O’Hara’s Quarter Late Night.
