Clean-up of “long neglected” stretch of river in Callan moves one giant step closer

Work can now finally get underway to clean up a “long neglected” stretch of river in Callan.
That’s according to local councillor Seán Tyrrell, after more than €72,000 was this week granted to the Kings River Committee.
Formed in December of last year, the committee has been trying to come up with the estimated €90,000 that will be needed to clean up the river and its banks from the main bridge in Callan to the foot bridge.
They’re hoping now to get to work on clearing the build-up of silt from the banks.
However, Councillor Tyrrell told KCLR News doing any clean-up in the river itself will have to wait until next year because of laws surrounding in-river works.
