An ambitious plan for the regeneration of Johnstown in County Kilkenny has been presented to councillors.
Representatives from Place and Urbanism Ltd outlined their vision at a recent meeting of Castlecomer Municipal District.
It includes a number of measures, from lowering speed limits to installing new public hangout spaces.
Speaking to KCLR News, Councillor Pat Fitzpatrick has been telling KCLR News; “I’m delighted to see this public realm plan because again it’s so important to have a plan and there was real concerns about speeding, about the look of parts of Johnstown and all this is addressed in this plan and I’m absolutely delighted that there’s a plan on paper, I think the public will be happy with most of the plan, I suppose you can never get everything 100% right but at least we have a plan”.
The work’s expected to take some years to get over the line and Councillor Fitzpatrick adds it’s important that everybody’s catered for, saying; “The whole square in Johnstown needs to be dealt with because it’s always been a really dangerous junction there but again parking and to make sure that the local businesses are not affected in any way because we want our villages to thrive and small businesses are the heart of every village”.
