The Mayor of Carlow has welcomed the withdrawal of proposed walkways in area plan.
A special meeting of the county council saw members vote on amendments to the proposal for between now and 2030.
Walkways were to be placed in the Kearney’s Lane and Highfield areas of the town, something the National Transport Authority wished to see.
But Cllr Fintan Phelan was delighted he and his colleagues unanimously decided against them; “I was from the get-go completely opposed to the inclusion of those links because it made no sense in those locations so the last day we discussed this I proposed that we would remove them, the NTA came back and said that they wanted to keep them in but as a council today we said that we were keeping them out of the plan and that those links wouldn’t go ahead which I think is very positive news for the residents in Kearney’s Lane and Highfield and I was grateful that the entire council backed that proposal”
