Trump also told supporters in New York the ‘forgotten men and women’ would be forgotten no more.
His rival Hillary Clinton who has called the Republican to congratulate him and will speak later today.
Russian president Vladimir Putin’s among the first of the world leaders to congratulate him – saying he hopes for ‘constructive dialogue’.

Global financial markets have tumbled in response to Donald Trump’s election, with the FTSE in London opening down two percent – before recovering.
The US dollar has also slumped, and Mexico’s currency has collapsed to historic lows.
