Economist predicts Kilkenny housing shortage will worsen

A senior economist expects the housing shortage in Kilkenny to get worse.

Daft.ie’s Ronan Lyons says that prices in Carlow and Kilkenny rose 5- and 17-percent respectively over the past year.

But he says the high cost of building houses at the moment is causing problems with supply in Dublin and other places around the country where demand is strong.

He says if Kilkenny County Council’s plans to redevelop the Brewery site in the city come to fruition in the next few years it could lead to a similar crisis locally.
