EPA says not enough improvement in water quality of our local rivers

There’s been some improvement in the rivers across Carlow and Kilkenny – but not enough.

So says one of the authors of an EPA report into the quality of our waterways between 2010 and 2015 which has just been published this week.

While the report gives a relatively stable picture, it says we’ve failed to meet the planned targets set out in 2009 of 13% improvement.

Matthew Craig, co-author of the report, told KCLR it’s been a bit of a mixed bag in terms of our major rivers locally.

There are about half a dozen small tributary rivers locally which have deteriorated in quality over the last few years.

They include the Dinan river near Castlecomer, the Duiske in Graiguenamanagh and the Mountain River near Borris.
