Between 2010 and 2016 an estimated €4.7 million was paid out in public liability claims against Carlow County Council.
Figures from the council show there were 180 claims – 108 of which were were as a result of trips or falls, which amounted to about €3.1 million.
The council also spent more than €6 million on insurance between 2011 and 2015.
