First tonight, we had an update on the efforts to bring sugar beet growing and sugar processing back to Ireland with a site already purchased near Castledermot. Pat Cleary of Beet Ireland will explain the strategy and business plan.
With the inclement weather conditions, also on the programme this evening we have advice on how to cope with the extreme weather conditions we are experiencing. There is a preview of a Teagasc event next week that will look at the types of bulls best suited to suckler farmers requirements. Teagasc’s Mark Slattery discussed the steps to be taken to manage a farm through the cold spell.
Eric Driver spoke about his weather experience in Tullow and comment on the types of cattle that are popular at Tullow Mart.
We also heard an excerpt from an interview with Cathal McCormack of Alltech about his changing emphasis in terms of breeding Angus cattle.
We had the usual Farm Diary sponsored by Tullow Mart. There was no mart in Kilkenny this week.
