First animation festival in Kilkenny starts today

Oscar nominated studio Cartoon Saloon are hosting the event.

From workshops to graffiti projects to live performances, Kilkenny’s newest festival officially launches this afternoon.

Kilkenny Animated sees major names from major studios like Disney along with plenty of our own home-grown talent – headed up by Cartoon Saloon who are hosting the festival.

The official launch is taking place at 4.30 this afternoon with the Minister for the Arts doing the honours.

The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht will also be launching the National Youth Film and Animation School.

Josepha Madigan will be calling into a number of other places on her visit, including St Kieran’s College and GAA Hurling Museum, the National Design and Crafts Council and Butler Gallery.

The launch of the school takes place at 3 o’clock with the launch of Kilkenny Animated getting underway shortly after 4.
