It’s a foggy start to Tuesday in pocket of Carlow and Kilkenny but it appears weather is to worsen in the coming days.

An Atlantic jet stream is threatening to generate ‘the strongest winds of the winter’ this weekend.

Met Éireann says a deep low pressure system is tracking near Ireland bringing ‘very strong winds, high seas, and spells of heavy rain’.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather says it’s an evolving situation, with an offshore storm approaching later this week noting; “We have a spell of very unsettled and possibly stormy weather coming towards us on Thursday night into Friday and that’s because we have a very strong jet stream coming across the Atlantic which is going to power up this intense low and bring it toward or close to Ireland and it is going to bring a number of low pressure systems towards us later in this week and into the early days of next week”.

As for the fog, Kilkenny Gardaí have issued the following advice on their Facebook page;

“It’s the day some have been preparing for…

Today there is fog in places so mind how you go and drive with dipped headlights on and fog lamps if fitted. ( foglamps are to be used in fog and falling snow)
Many already drive with front fog lights on the whole time because it seemingly looks cool. Today is a day when you SHOULD use front and rear foglights.
Note also that in daylight your AUTO lights will not pick up the poor visibility and will likely not switch on.
People with LED light bars should NOT use these anytime on a public road, the Fog is not an excuse.
The correct use of lights is for everyone’s safety.”
