A former Mercy Convent in county Kilkenny has gone on sale with a guide price of €700,000.
It opened in 1881 in Callan as a home for the Sisters of Mercy, an order which had been brought to the town by the then Bishop of Ossory less than ten years prior to help restore peace following the Callan Schism.
The nuns did much for the area from then on and were very involved in the St Brigid’s College secondary school offering (which amalgamated with Coláiste Éamann Rís to form Coláiste Abhainn Rí which opened in 2022).
The 36-bedroom, 12-bathroom property which sits on the grounds of the above school, closed two years ago.
The property is being offered for sale via PF Quirke and Co Limited.
