Sinn Fein TD Kathleen Funchion says she would like to see a woman take over the leadership of her party.
It comes as questions are being raised about the future of Gerry Adams’ leadership.
The latest accusations came from a BBC spotlight programme that suggested Mr Adams ordered the murder of IRA informer Denis Donaldson in 2006.
