Gardaí are advising local dog owners to keep them under control around farms and farm animals.

It comes after an incident in Bennekerry in Carlow recently, where a dog managed to get into an area with hens.

You’re being warned that dogs can cause huge damage to livestock if not controlled and they can be euthanized by the farmer or a dog warden should this happen.

Speaking to KCLR news, Garda Joe Reville says you should ensure your pet is kept secure at all times, and that it is an offence to have your dog off a lead.
