Gardaí are warning you to lock your car and not to leave valuables in it
In a third of thefts from cars Gardaí say the vehicles were left unlocked
Don’t store valuables in the car but if you have to at least keep them out of sight.
That’s the message from Gardaí who have released new figures about the level of thefts from cars, which shows that many have been left unlocked when the crime happens.
Property worth in the region of €340,000 is stolen each year from cars.
Crime Prevention Officer for the Kilkenny-Carlow Garda Division Sgt Peter McConnon says there has been a slight increase since the start of this year in such crimes.
And he says the best advice is just not to leave any valuable items or money in your car.
